Game Recap

It was another tough night for the Redskins as they fell to Columbia Central 6-3. The Golden Eagles were able to score just minutes into the game after a goal kick was was won by their midfielder and played up to a forward for an easy shot. A short while later, the Golden Eagles were able to stretch their lead to two goals after they finished a corner off with a beautiful header. The Redskins played hard and with 10 minutes left in the first half, they found the back of the net after a quick counterattack. The transition allowed the ball to be played to Maria Kovach who dropped it back to freshman, Emma Hampel. Hampel took a one time, long range shot that dropped into the goal over the goalkeeper’s head. Unfortunately, the one goal deficit was short lived as Columbia stormed down the field just 30 seconds later to go back up. Clinton did not back down and put another goal in with 6 to play in the half. Again, quick transitional play found the ball on Taylor Tschirhart’s foot at forward. She was able to lay it off for Alexis Bailey to poke it by the goalie to close the gap.

Second half started strong with good possession and good pressure on the ball. 12 minutes in, Alexis Bruecker played a ball up to Alexia Rolland on the front line. Taylor Tschirhart made a run into the box as Alexia Rolland played a well paced ball in. Tschirhart’s run toward goal was enough to cause some confusion before the goalie and a defender and the ball ended up bouncing off of one of Columbia’s players into the net tying the game. Shortly thereafter, the Golden Eagles came right back down the field and were awarded a penalty kick. Freshman Sarah Sclafani put her best effort forth to stop the ball but came up short. 12 minutes later, Columbia found the goal again off a corner kick to go up 5-3. Unfortunately, with only 8 left to play, another penalty kick was awarded to Columbia Central after an accidental hand ball in the box as the ball was being cleared on a corner kick.

The Redskins look to add another win to their record on a Thursday at Onsted. Kickoff is at 5:30.
