Manchester High School
Clinton High School
Tonight’s game was a nail biter for both Clinton and Manchester. Being both league and cross town rivals, any game between the Dutch and the Redskins is an intense one. This evening was no different. Clinton came out and dominated play with quick passing and possessed the ball well. They created many opportunities, however, Manchester’s goalkeeper remained strong between the posts. Both teams had several shots but were unable to find the goal first half as they both took turns pacing the game.
Second half started much like the first with the Redskins causing the Dutch some frustration as they played keep away. They saw even more opportunities to shoot from far away, but were unable to get inside the box due to some strong defending from Manchester. On Clinton’s end, strong defense was being played. Faith Ford controlled the back line and directed play very wall. Kayla Jablonski and Kylee Doty did a wonderful job denying shots and crosses from out wide. Unfortunately, with 15 minutes to play, there was a breakdown around the half and the Redskins lost the ball. Manchester had a very quick counter attack bringing the ball down the left side of the field. The ball was crossed and although Alexis Bruecker was able to make a stellar diving catch, the ball popped out to a wide open forward for an easy tap in. Clinton continued to play hard the remainder of the game but they were unable to equalize it.
The Redskins return to play on Friday at Grass Lake beginning at 5:30.
