Clinton Varsity Girls Track defeated Sand Creek 74-63 and Britton-Deerfield 79-52 to start their season 2-0! Both wins were earned thru gutsy individual effort and clutch performance. According to Coach Krauss, “It was a terrific effort by our entire team. We have great leadership and it showed as we were able to defeat a tough Sand Creek team and a greatly improved Britton Deerfield.”
There were several great performances against the Creek; Amanda Schaare claimed 1st place in both throwing events, Payton VanStaveren earned a pair of firsts in the long jump and 100m dash, Brianna Burton earned 1st in the high jump and 400m dash, Tessia Struck earned 1st in the 200m dash, Hailey Skiff won the 3200m run and the 400m and 800m relay teams of VanStaveren, Lindsey Burton, Tessia Struck and Makayla Thompson blew away the competition, as did the 1600m relay team of Thompson, Struck, Lindsey Burton and Brianna Burton to seal the victory for the Team!
Other good performances were had by Arielle Hitch in the high and low hurdles, Allyson Elwart, Nikole Hartung and Makayla Fletcher claimed 2nd in the 1600, 800 and 3200m runs. Lindsey Burton picked up a 3rd in the long jump, Hailey Skiff and Allyson Elwart also nabbed 3rd in the 1600 and 800m runs, and Paige Studnicka earned an important point in the 300m low hurdles in her debut for the event!
Against Britton-Deerfield points were earned by Shelby Mellinger in the shot and discus, Olivia Pegouskie in the 100m dash, Breece Phillips in the 400m dash.
