The 2016 Middle School Cross Country season had a banner year. The team set the school mark in medals with 36. With the rebirth of the program in 2013, the team has steadily improved each year. The program earned 7, 16, 24, and 36 medals respectively over the past 4 seasons. “I knew going into the season that we would have lots of individual success” said Coach Delezenne. The team was filled with seasoned runners this year along with quality newcomers to the program. Nate Chavez and Cassie McNatt each earned 8 medals. Eric Briggs earned 7 while Gabe Nelson earned 5. Todd King, Alissa King, Ashley Bouse, Brynn Frederick, and Samuel Hoffman each earned some hardware this year as well.
The boys also had team success as they won the Morenci Invitational and Sand Creek Invitational to end the season.
With the rebirth of the program, many record paces were set this year. With the distances changing from race to race, pacing is used to determine times.
8th grade records set this year – Nate Chavez 5:59 (1st), Eric Briggs 6:18 (2nd), Alissa King 7:45 (1st), and Ashley Bouse 7:58 (2nd).
7th grade records set this year – Gabe Nelson 6:46 (3rd).
6th grade records set this year – Cassie McNatt 7:01 (1st), Brynn Frederick 8:04 (2nd), and Julianne Hernandez 8:09 (3rd).
The high school program is excited to have Eric Briggs, Nathan Chavez, Todd King, Ashley Bouse, Alissa King, and Anna Young join the squad next fall.
The MHSAA made a change for the 2016 season allowing 6th graders to officially be part of MSXC. Is your child interested in joining MSXC next season? Email Coach Delezenne at email@example.com for more information.
