The Clinton Redskin varsity football team wrapped up the 2016 season competing in the MHSAA Division 7 District semi-final against Tri-County Conference rival Sand Creek with the Aggies escaping with a hard fought 12-7 victory over the Redskins. Mike Sprau scored Clinton’s loan touchdown on a 17 yard pass reception from quarterback Clark Nelson. Placekicker Erik Bouse converted the extra point kick. Nelson completed 7 of 18 passes good for 111 yards with Steve laurell (4-45), Sprau (1-17), Brandon Studnicka (1-24) and Clay Langer (1-25) having the recpetions . Cordell Hernandez rushed for 50 yards on 12 carries while Laurell (6-40), Langer (6-22), Studnicka (1-11) and Nelson (4-7) added rushing yards. Defensively, Clinton was led by Josh Brown with 9 tackles. Langer (5), Laurell (3), Riley Jacobs (4), Trent Sexton (4), Austin Popp (4), Eathan Hicks (5), Billy Baker (4), Danny Spence (3), Studnicka (4), Alex McIntosh (5), Liam Tapp (4), and Creed Ahrens (2) added tackles. Clinton finishes the season with a 6-4 record and qualified for the MHSAA State Play-offs for the 17th time in school history.
Coach McNitt on the season: “We had a tremendous season considering how many great players we graduated from last seasons State final team. We dealt with so many injuries this year yet our kids kept working and the coaches did an outstanding job of preparing our team each week. This was a very successful season, one we should be very proud of”
